About the Midnight Sun Republican Women's Club
The Midnight Sun Republican Women's Club first organized in 1984 as a group of women interested in offering another
Republican women's club experience in Anchorage. Our first event was the International Food Festival in fall 1986.
In 2005 we reorganized with a new mission statement. Our reorganization included saying farewell to old traditions,
in particular the final celebration of the International Food Festival in November of 2006. Foodfest, as it was
affectionately called, is officially retired now that it reached maturity after 21 years at Chilkoot Charlies.
Moving on, we have focused on rewriting our bylaws, coming up with new fundraising ideas, adding a new charity drive,
and recruiting new members. Our current membership is around 15 members with an additional 8 associate members. It is
a great time to join to help set the future course of the club.
Our revised mission statement still reflects our philanthropic intentions, despite the retirement of Foodfest. Our new
charity drive is Soles4Souls, which involves collecting barely used shoes and shipping them off to central locations for
distribution to poorer areas and countries.
We have some fabulous new ideas for fundraising, which we look forward to developing into real action over the next year
now that we are recovered from Foodfest. We intend to further our mission in the support of Republican candidates and
ideals through our future fundraising.
Our program and issues committee continues for find interesting and unique programs. All of our members volunteered and
raised money for Republican candidates during the last round of elections. The social events of our club continue to be
membership highlights, including our summer picnic and Christmas party.
A distinguishing feature of our club is our monthly meetings, held the last Tuesday of most months as a lunch meeting at
Chilkoot Charlies. Catered by Sal's Grill, we get a great deal on a great meal. And many ladies get to see the inside
of Koots in the safety of daytime! We do try to vary our meeting times between luncheons and evening events to include
the varying schedules of our members. Of course the evening events are not held at Koots.
The majority of us are younger working mothers who want to be involved in promoting loyalty to the Republican Party.
We are busy, yet effective and efficient. We promote mentoring and networking. We communicate primarily through email,
so if you want to be linked in, just provide your email address and join the fun. We aren't always the most organized,
but we definitely have fun being Republican, which is a great thing to be and this is a great club to belong to.
